Use of Boplan safety barriers and gates for pedestrian protection improve safety at renowned production facility

Protection of pedestrians and machinery

The site required solid barriers to protect pedestrians and infrastructure from forklift collisions. Boplan installed TB 400 PLUS safety barriers with sturdy handrails and safety gates in several locations to ensure safety across the facility.

Challenges

This company asked Boplan to create a physical separation between traffic and pedestrians in the production center. In addition, Henkel wanted to better structure the stored goods and provide maximum protection against forklift collisions. The risk of collision is high where pallets, forklift traffic and pedestrians come together. Accidents and damage can lead to interruptions in production, causing delays and costs. To avoid this, they asked Boplan to take safety at their site to the next level with impact-resistant safety solutions.

The Boplan safety solutions

As a comprehensive supplier of safety solutions, Boplan installed safety equipment in various critical areas. One of the major installations included closing off the entire packing area with the TB 400 PLUS. Other traffic areas were also sectioned off to prevent collisions between pedestrians and infrastructure. The TB 400 PLUS was specifically chosen for its ability to handle significant impact, offering an impact value of up to 20,100 Joules.

Additionally, the double handrail design prevents pedestrians from stepping over the barrier, and its visibility as people enter the work area encourages more cautious behavior. Beyond safeguarding pedestrians, the safety barrier is designed to halt forklifts, thereby protecting infrastructure and machinery from damage, minimizing repairs, and reducing downtime.

Despite these protective measures, forklifts still need access to deliver packaging materials and goods. This is achieved through the use of multiple DOCK GATE safety gates, which are equipped with a hydraulic mechanism for smooth and efficient operation. Besides its functional benefits, the bright yellow color of the safety equipment provides clear signage and helps create a more organized and structured workplace.

Safety gates increase awareness and safety

In addition to the crash protection and the sturdy DOCK GATE safety gates, SWING GATES have also been installed. This type of safety gate is easy to use and closes automatically. Because they are always closed, the pedestrian has to stop to open the gate. This action increases vigilance when leaving the pedestrian area or walkway. In addition, the SWING GATE integrate perfectly with other FLEX IMPACT® safety products.

In addition to the SWING GATE, the SLIDING GATE was also installed. This safety gate works like a sliding door and is therefore very suitable for areas where there is little space for a swing gate. The SLIDING GATE is also suitable for larger openings, allowing forklifts and pallet trucks to pass easily. The SLIDING GATE can also be combined with the other FLEX IMPACT® products.
